How does solar work?

How do you use the electricity?

The electricity that is generated from solar panels can be used for almost any electrical device.

We often see solar electricity used to power:

  • Manufacturing facilities
  • Irrigation pumps
  • Dairy milking barns
  • Pivots
  • Storage buildings

In short, any place that has an existing electrical load we can install solar at.

The size of the system that RS Energy typically installs is based on our customers yearly electrical consumption.

We do an in-depth energy audit to determine how many Kilowatt hours you are currently using on an annual basis and design the system based off that.

All of our systems utilize net metering.  This allows customers to receive a credit from their electrical utility.  Typically the business has a year to use all of the credits.

Battery technology is close to being commercially viable for some applications.

Currently, RS Energy is not installing batteries for systems.  We are utilizing Net Metering policies.

Physical size of systems

The solar panels that RS Energy install are 3.5 feet by 6 feet tall.

Our systems range from 1,500 sq feet all the way up to 10 acres (440,000 sq feet).

We have found that a customer typically has the space needed to install solar on their property.

All of our systems utilize net metering.  This allows customers to receive a credit from their electrical utility.  Typically the business has a year to use all of the credits.

Battery technology is close to being commercially viable for some applications.

What is the payback of the system?

No! Solar panel costs have dropped 5X over the last decade making them economically competitive with traditional power projects. In addition, panels are also more efficient which has reduced the overall project and operating cost. That means less racking, wiring, labor and maintenance.

There are several variables to consider when figuring out the payback period of your system. What is the existing power rate at your existing plant? What is the geographic multiplier in the area of your installed panels? The payback period will typical range from 3-6 years.
